Keeping family close

I think one of the hardest part of being a parent is keeping their child close to them without holding them back too much. It’s ironic because you’d think that when you’re young you’ll keep close to your parents and when you grow up you’ll be independent and be your own person, doing your own things. It’s quite opposite to me actually. The older I grow, the more I stay closer to my family.

I’m lucky to say that I have an excellent support system, that is none other than my family. We are all our own people with our own personalities (ok, some related!) but the beauty of this is that we all grow, learn and progress over time and as a whole, the family institution is strengthened.

Of course no family is perfect but Alhamdullilah our problems are always overcome by perseverance, emotional support and continuous prayer. Like I mentioned, we’re always learning from each other. I learn from my brothers, they learn from me, I learn from my parents, they learn from me. And I’ve only realised this recently, thinking about it. It’s quite a nice revelation and it reminds me that there is not quite a strength as strong as the kind of strength I get when I’m with my family. It’s an amazing feeling really.

My parents love to annoy me by lecturing me all day long (even on skype!!) but they must have done something right because my two brothers and I are closer to them more than ever and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Love does exist across our land,
From one coast to the other.
Children move to a different place,
    Adult life to discover.
To greet life as intended, the family as one,
Flying across the country to a place they still call home.
    Love of brother and sister,
    Trust of husband and wife,
    Family and friends together,
    Loving each other for life,
    Unhappiness may come between them,
    Jealousy or strife,
When sickness or death befalls them,
The love is there for life.
